condo / apartment complexes with EV charging
Most EV owners get their charging done at home, overnight. They plug in when they get home, and the next morning the car is fully charged and ready to go.
However, it can be difficult to charge up for those who live in multi-unit residences (e.g. condominium and apartment complexes). Even though a regular wall outlet is usually sufficient, the residence complex management may balk at EV owners plugging into those outlets, usually because they are simply paranoid about it causing problems.
Increasingly, multi-unit residential complexes are offering EV charging as an amenity to their customers. To help those looking for such complexes, I’m maintaining a list here of multi-unit locations around Atlanta that offer this amenity.
If you manage such a complex, and have EV charging stations installed or even just allow use of regular wall outlets, make sure your promotional material mentions this! Put it in the list of amenities on your website and in your brochures.
The US Department of Energy has a fantastic collection of resources on how to getting charging going at your complex. For multi-unit owners, they offer a 4-page intro/guide, a sample survey for your residents, and cost calculation tools. This should be your next stop.

UPDATE: I last updated this list in August 2013, so the list below now represents the early adopters in the Atlanta market. Since then, EV charging has become an amenity that is much more common in multi-units. For example, Post Properties, the leading operator in metro Atlanta, installed EV charging at every one of their properties in late 2015. If your multi-unit complex doesn’t offer EV charging, let them know that they are now well behind the times and need to step up ….
